The most significant impact on children’s learning and happiness at school is the quality of the teacher-student relationship.
Teacher Effectiveness Training (T.E.T.) offers teachers practical tools, and effective communication and conflict resolution skills that promote positive, co-operative and connected relationships with students without using coercion, praise, rewards or punishment.
Children’s behaviour is usually driven by underlying feelings and needs. Many teaching techniques focus on trying to change children’s behaviour and therefore miss the underlying causes. This often results in change that is short-lived and doesn’t help children develop important social and emotional skills.
T.E.T. is unique in that it guides teachers in how to help children identify and address their underlying feelings and needs, resulting in warmer, more connected relationships, and children who are happier, more co-operative, resilient and self-disciplined.
This ultimately leads to teaching which is more rewarding and enjoyable!
Award winning, psychologist Dr Thomas Gordon originally developed the T.E.T. program nearly 50 years ago after extensive research. The course is now taught by accredited instructors worldwide. In Australia T.E.T. instructors use scenarios specifically adapted for our unique curricula.
In this empowering course learn to:
Analyse typical communication patterns between teachers and students.
Understand the effects of a range of communication responses which are not helpful
Counsel students with educational or personal problems
Increase student contribution in class discussions
Assist classes in clarifying the sources of problems that are impeding learning
Confront students, without damaging their self-esteem, on issues that concern you
Resolve conflicts in ways which aim to meet the needs of everyone concerned, avoiding either permissiveness or coercive power
Have students participate in establishing their own classroom rules which they are motivated to follow
Help students become more self-directed and productive partners
Have students accept more responsibility for assessing their own progress by helping them set their own educational objectives
Make the total educational experience an exercise in co-operation.
You will benefit from T.E.T. by having:
Greater job satisfaction
